  ## App Description

This app replicates the bench test method described in ASTM F543-A3 to predict the axial pull-out load of metallic bone screws in Sawbones® rigid polyurethane foam.

The whole simulation workflow is automated to :

1. Create the test geometry by importing the specified screw CAD file and creating the Sawbones® foam block around the screw in Spaceclaim,
2. Setup the analysis (Loading, Boundary Conditions, Contact Settings, Material Assignment and Mesh) in Mechanical
3. Solve the model in LS-Dyna
4. Create a simulation report and animation file.

This tool uses an advanced LS-DYNA damage and failure model to simulate foam failure during the screw pull-out process. The only required input to evaluate pull-out performance is :

- the 3D CAD file of the screw (Step format).
- the value of the screw Insertion depth (in mm).

The pull-out test can be done with Sawbones® rigid polyurethane foam with various density:

- 10 PCF,
- 20 PCF,
- 40 PCF

The 20-PCF test has been qualified by the US **F**ood and **D**rug **A**dministration (FDA) as a **M**edical **De**vice **D**evelopment **T**ool (MDDT SEBQ # U240247) which enables manufacturers to bypass traditional prototyping testing by directly submitting the simulation report to regulatory bodies with confidence. ## Key Benefits

**What your results package will include:**

- Test Report (.pdf file)
- Animation (.mp4)
- Force-Displacement Curve (raw data in .csv file)

  ## Use Cases

The current iterative workflow to optimize screw designs requires designing, prototyping and testing the screws, which is a process that can take weeks to months, making it costly and time consuming.

This hinders the ability of engineers to reach an optimal design.

Using computer modeling and simulation, we can change this iterative workflow to only needing to design the screw using a CAD software and then conduct numerical testing, which can reduce the time necessary to optimize screws to only a few days: : two business day delivery time is our commitment (starting on full information receipt from customer).
