The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.

The [URL](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml "The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.") objects contains the string for a [URL](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml "The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.") path and provides string operations on it. A [Project](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_project.xhtml "Base class for Project API, also see SimProject.") define an [URL](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml "The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.") for each file or folder, the [URL](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml "The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.") will indicate where to fetch the content.

A [URL](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml "The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.") is a data location as

 A special type of [URL](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml "The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.") is also supported: relative paths

 Relative paths infer their global location from their parent directory (PFolder)

### Type

The type can be omitted, it is then assumed a "file://" type see [URL::getType()](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml#afca6d0bfdbd341416abe058a22dd7928 "Return the URL type.")

"filename" -&gt; "file://filename"

The type is tied to a [Storage](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_storage.xhtml "Base class for file storage management module.") interface, and some project operations ( file access, deletion, etc.) will require the matching [Storage](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_storage.xhtml "Base class for file storage management module.") plug-in to access the remote file.

*Note: (2020R2) only a "file://" interface is provided via [StorageFilesystem](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_storage_filesystem.xhtml "Class for Storage on standard filesystem, for file:// URL.")*

### Differences with URI specs:

- a [URL](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml "The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.") object can be initialized with a relative path ( starts with ./) but such an [URL](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml "The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.") is only used for [URL](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml "The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.") composision
- The single slash <file:/path> syntax is not supported, only <file://..>.

### Path/Filename component

[str()](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml#adfa904dbbd5f478035b455c19361a0f9 "Returns the path/file component of the URL."), c\_str() will return the [URL](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml "The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.") content without the type "file:///path/filename" -&gt; "/path/filename"

### Type: file

The file paths are stored with the / separator (if \\ windows separator are used, the are converted to /, except file sharing paths)

The getURLComponents() returns an array of the [URL](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml "The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.") items /path/file -&gt; \[ / , path/ , file\] This function returns the [URL](classansys_1_1_project_1_1_u_r_l.xhtml "The address of a local or remote file, using the URI format.") forming the subset between indices in this array

Parameters pComponentStartstart of the subset (starts at 0) pEndend of the subset, not included.
